I have developed a checklist for my own care service and for use when I am supporting care providers with compliance. This includes what I consider to be the key compliance criteria to ensure that care and support plans meet people’s needs in the way they prefer and the integration between care plans and risk assessments. The checklist is designed to be used to audit care plans and risk assessments and to help care providers avoid making some of the common mistakes that can lead to adverse inspection ratings.
My suggestions for the use of the checklist are:-
Use it to audit each care plan and risk assessment on a regular basis
Develop action plans to address areas of non-compliance
Aggregate the results of the audit i.e. how many non-compliances in each criteria
Identify; patterns, themes and trends in non-compliances
Develop improvements to your care planning and risk assessment processes
Implement the improvements to your processes
Repeat the audit to demonstrate that your improvements have been actioned and are effective
